Structural Design Draftsperson

Mississauga, Ontario

KGS Group is seeking a Structural Design Draftsperson to join our Structural Department in Mississauga, ON. KGS Group is a multidisciplinary employee-owned consulting firm with offices in Winnipeg, Regina, Mississauga, Thunder Bay and Seattle.

The primary duties of a Structural Design Draftsperson are to prepare engineering models, drawings and documents. Models and drawings are produced primarily with AutoCAD and additional documents with Microsoft Office software. Reporting to the CAD coordinator or project lead, a Structural Design Draftsperson works independently to complete tasks as well as with a design team. On occasion, short periods of field work may be required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare structural engineering models and drawings with AutoCAD;
  • Assist in gathering technical information for reports, specifications and analysis;
  • Perform basic calculations and present them in a logical and organized manner;
  • Effectively and accurately communicate information and ideas;
  • Assist in preparation of presentations.

Qualifications and Credentials:

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a two year or three year diploma, or be graduating from a Civil Engineering Technology institute of recognized standing;
  • Possess an above average technical aptitude and a desire to further develop technical knowledge;
  • Have working knowledge of steel and reinforced concrete design and drafting standards;
  • Have excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD 2015;
  • Successfully work to meet tight deadlines while producing accurate and highly detailed data;
  • Work efficiently and effectively with little supervision, as an individual and with a team;
  • Be capable of visualizing and communicating complex construction details;
  • Be willing to learn new software programs;
  • Be capable of communicating effectively, both orally and through written communication;
  • Be committed to Quality Assurance.

Further assets to the position include:

  • Prior experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and 3D modeling;
  • Knowledge of structural construction;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software;
  • Knowledge of architectural and geotechnical design.
