Geotechnical Construction Inspector

Winnipeg, Manitoba

KGS Group is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Geotechnical department in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this position, you will perform a variety of construction inspection activities for earthworks, concrete and steel construction under the general supervision of the Resident Engineer and Shift Supervisor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise geotechnical drilling and investigation program;
  • Perform jobsite inspections to ensure conformity with drawings, specifications and standards of workmanship;
  • Inspect earthworks, rock excavation, formwork, reinforcement, concrete placement and steel structures;
  • Monitor contractor performance and activities;
  • Update and record field revisions for "As-Built" documents;
  • Establish and maintain close liaison with the contractor's personnel on all aspects of the work.

Qualifications and Credentials:

  • Be a graduate of a Civil Engineering Technology institute of recognized standing (two or three year program);
  • Be able to perform basic soil classification;
  • Be able to perform basic survey functions using level and transit;
  • Have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and AutoCAD 2012;
  • Work efficiently and effectively with little supervision, as an individual and with a team;
  • Be capable of interpreting Engineering drawings and have a thorough understanding of engineering terminology, processes and procedures;
  • Be capable of communicating effectively, both orally and through written communication;
  • Be committed to Quality Assurance and safe work practices;
  • Be capable and willing to work in areas of rough terrain, at heights and under various weather conditions;
  • Be willing to work on a night shift when necessary;
  • Be willing to travel for work outside the City of Winnipeg;
  • Possess a valid Province of Manitoba class 5 driver's license;
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is an asset;
  • Familiarity with document control software is an asset.
