Structural Technologist

Winnipeg, Manitoba

KGS Group is seeking a Structural Technologist to join our Structural Department in Winnipeg, MB. KGS Group is a multidisciplinary employee-owned consulting firm with offices in Winnipeg, Regina, Mississauga, Thunder Bay and Seattle.

The primary duties of the Structural Technologist are to prepare engineering models, drawings and documents. Models and drawings are produced primarily with AutoCAD and additional documents with Microsoft Office software. Reporting to the CAD coordinator or project lead, the Technologist will work independently to complete tasks, as well as with a design team. On occasion, short periods of field work may be required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare structural engineering models and drawings with AutoCAD;
  • Assist in gathering technical information for reports, specifications and analysis;
  • Perform basic calculations and present them in a logical and organized manner;
  • Effectively and accurately communicate information and ideas;
  • Assist in preparation of presentations.

Qualifications and Credentials:

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a two year or three year diploma, or be graduating from a Civil Engineering Technology institute of recognized standing;
  • C.E.T. or C. Tech designation is preferred;
  • Possess an above average technical aptitude and a desire to further develop technical knowledge;
  • Have working knowledge of steel and reinforced concrete design and drafting standards;
  • Have excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD 2015 or later versions;
  • Be willing and able to perform basic site inspections as required and hold a valid class 5 driver's license;
  • Successfully work to meet tight deadlines while producing accurate and highly detailed data;
  • Work efficiently and effectively with little supervision, as an individual and with a team;
  • Be capable of visualizing and communicating complex construction details;
  • Be willing to learn new software programs;
  • Be capable of communicating effectively, both orally and through written communication;
  • Be committed to Quality Assurance.

Further assets to the position include:

  • Knowledge of structural construction;
  • Prior experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and 3D modeling;
  • Knowledge of MicroStation software;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software;
  • Knowledge of architectural and geotechnical design.
