GIS Specialist/Technologist

KGS Group is seeking an entry level to intermediate Geographic Information Systems Specialist or Technologist to join our Winnipeg, Regina or Saskatoon team in our growing Geomatics department.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for a GIS Specialist to work with a great team of Engineers, Geoscientists and Technologists. Our team is involved in a wide range of projects in both urban and rural settings including but not limited to:

  • Environmental assessment, monitoring, and management.
  • Land management.
  • Landfill assessment, construction, and decommissioning.
  • Municipal Infrastructure and asset management.
  • Soils and geology datasets.
  • Industrial, mine, and institutional projects.
  • Data management internally and for external clients.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct spatial data analysis and figure production in Geographic Information System (GIS)
  • Perform field and office calculations effectively.
  • Support internal data management efforts including the creation, conversion, compilation, and administration of geographic and geometry enabled databases.
  • Provide spatial analysis services and develop custom-built geoprocessing tools, specialized mapping products, and dashboards by request, to enhance and support decision making and data analytics.
  • Effectively and accurately communicate information and ideas by email and field reports.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences.  Some highlights could include:

  • The successful applicant will have a 3 year diploma or degree with a background in GIS or Geomatics.
  • 1 to 5 years of experience working in GIS applications.
  • GIS Experience in the following areas:
    • ESRI ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) and/or ArcGIS Pro, including extensions (Spatial, 3D analyst, etc.)
    • QGIS software.
    • Layouts in ArcGIS for Report Figures and Printable Map production.
    • Understanding of cartographic fundamental principles.
    • Usage of ArcGIS Online and/or similar web data hosting systems.
    • Vector-based data analysis, creation/editing and management.
    • Raster management, creation, and analysis.
    • Functional understanding of databases (design, management, etc.)
  • Other skills and experience assets would be:
    • Knowledge of related software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Global Mapper.
    • Great written and oral communication skills.
    • Graphic design including use of Adobe Photoshop.
    • Process-driven workflow, attention to detail, and experience handling large or complex datasets.
    • Programming using Python, SQL, JavaScript.
