Hydraulics and Hydrology Engineer-in-Training (US)

The Role
In this role, you’ll work in a team environment to prepare hydrologic and hydraulic engineering modeling and related studies. You will work on assigned projects with mentorship and guidance of intermediate to senior level engineers while collaborating with engineers and designers from other disciplines. Working in a team environment, you will help to ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and up to high quality standards.
You will have the opportunity to work on exciting water resources and hydroelectric projects for sites across the U.S., and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and project teams. This role will provide valuable exposure to learn about hydraulic structures, hydro generation assets, as well as Part 12 dam safety inspections and comprehensive assessments.
This position provides an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate to work with a highly experienced multi-disciplinary group of engineers to gain experience while working towards obtaining their Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Complete technical engineering under the supervision of intermediate and senior engineers, including, but not limited to, hydrologic assessments, hydraulic modelling, surface drainage design, design of crossings, design of hydraulic structures, wind and wave analysis, dam breach modelling, flood mapping, flood management and flood protection design.
- Perform routine calculations and design as directed.
- Preparation and review of reports.
- Assist with the preparation and review of proposals.
- Data and input collection, and other tasks as assigned, to assist the engineering team in the completion of engineering studies and delivery of reports for various clients.
- Collaborate with the project teams and other disciplines within the KGS Group.
About You
To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant with a mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights include:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil or water resources or hydraulics and hydrology engineering from a recognized university. A post graduate degree would be an asset.
- Registered (or eligible to become registered) with Washington as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.).
- 0-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in an engineering consulting environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Previous experience with HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS will be considered an asset.
- The work will mainly be carried out of our Bellevue office, and travel to project sites is usually limited, but will be required at times depending on project/client requirements.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 annually.
