Mechanical Engineers and Engineers-in-Training

KGS Group is expanding into California! As part of this expansion, we are seeking Mechanical Engineers and Engineers-in-Training (EITs) to join our growing team in the United States and California. We anticipate opening an office in the Sacramento area in the coming year, and we are looking for candidates to join us there or in our Washington office.

About Us

We are KGS Group, an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients throughout North America. We’re different than traditional engineering firms. We believe a commitment to lasting relationships is just as critical as the expertise applied in our work. To us that means we put our clients and people first. We have the discipline to consistently deliver KGS Quality, never taking the easy way out. We always look closer and dig deeper. And no matter the project, we care enough to do it right.

As an employee-owned company, we’re invested in our work and our people. Working with us means you’ll be part of some of the most interesting projects up and down the west coast. With the extensive, wide-ranging expertise within our company, you’ll have countless opportunities to learn and grow.

Many of our core clients operate in the hydropower and water management fields. We are growing our U.S. team to continue to provide our industry-leading services to these clients. As we expand our presence in California and in these markets, we are looking for strong candidates at all levels to join our team!

The Role

We are seeking Mechanical Engineers to join our hydro groups on the west coast, but also potentially for remote work anywhere across the country. We are looking for candidates who will work extensively with turbines, gates and their associated systems, as well as other balance of plant systems in hydro structures. The successful applicants will have degrees from accredited universities and be excellent team players.

For intermediate and senior roles, successful candidates will have experience in mechanical engineering and ideally consulting on hydroelectric and water resource projects.

Technical work includes feasibility studies, engineering designs, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and carrying out structural inspections primarily for rehabilitation and upgrades to water retaining structures, hydroelectric facilities and new hydroelectric developments in Canada and the USA.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems related to dams, control structures, water retaining structures, and hydroelectric generating stations.
  • Manage and execute multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects involving water resources, flood control and hydroelectric sectors.
  • Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and provide design and construction support.
  • Mechanical engineering with cranes, hoists, hydroelectric turbines, generators and balance of plant systems.
  • Mechanical engineering design of gates, valves, pumps and other hydro-mechanical machinery.
  • Mechanical system design including piping isometrics, pipe stress analysis, drawing preparation oversight, reliability analysis, fatigue analysis and thermal analysis.
  • Preparation and review of reports.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensure that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in mechanical engineering from a recognized university. A post graduate degree would be an asset.
  • Must have successfully passed the NCEES FE exam for EIT role.
  • For more senior roles, a minimum of 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with demonstrated project management skills (tracking budgets and meeting schedules).
  • For intermediate and senior roles, must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in any state in the US, as well as eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E) in California and Washington.
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Travel to project sites is usually limited but will be required at times depending on project/client requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks.
  • Client interaction: must be able to effectively assume a lead role as project engineer at project meetings and communicate project and technical information.
  • Adept at pursuing new business opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Experience supporting business development/marketing and proposal writing efforts.
  • Leadership skills with a proven track record.
  • Experience managing and mentoring junior staff.
  • Have a drive, attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

KGS Group is an employee-owned equal opportunity company offering an excellent compensation and benefits package.
