Senior Electrical Engineer (Winnipeg)

The Role
In this position, you will undertake a leadership role within the department reporting directly to the Department Head. You will participate in design, day-to-day project work, business development, mentoring and continued development of the team. You will be working in a friendly and collaborative environment with opportunity to interface directly with clients.
KGS Group operates in the following sectors electrically and detailed relevant experience in multiple sectors is an asset:
- Industrial facility design
- Power station and water control structure design
- Substation, switchyard and distribution design
- Large commercial and institutional design
- Municipal design (includes sewage and water treatment systems and flood pumping systems).
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing modifications to, or entirely new, electrical systems related to industrial and/or utility construction
- Managing and executing multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large in the industrial and/or utility sector
- Specification and report preparation and detailed review
- Engineering drawing preparation and review
- Working collaboratively with other disciplines to execute project deliverables, as well as ensuring that quality objectives, schedules and budgets are met
- Pursuing new business opportunities with new and existing clients
- Managing and mentoring junior staff
About You
To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant bringing forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a recognized university; a post graduate degree would be an asset
- Seven to Ten years of experience in electrical engineering with demonstrated project management skills (Tracking budgets and meeting schedules)
- Must be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Manitoba, as well as other Canadian provinces
- Previous consulting experience is preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
- Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated experience in site investigations, condition assessments, design and construction support is preferred
- Detailed knowledge of industrial and/or utility power distribution systems up to MV and HV levels
- Experience working with electrical utilities within Canda
- Detailed knowledge of building systems
- Detailed Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, Building Code and other relevant codes and standards for construction of new facilities and facility expansions
- Experience working on multi-discipline projects
- Experience with the following items would be an asset: Automation and instrumentation systems, Protection and controls for MV and HV, including distribution systems, Electrical power system studies, Emergency Systems, Lighting & control systems, Fire alarm detection & notification systems, Structured cable systems and networking, Security systems, Electrical required for building mechanical systems
- Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks
