About Us
We are KGS Group, an employee-owned, multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm serving clients throughout North America. We’re different than traditional engineering firms. Many of our core clients operate in the hydropower and water management fields. We are growing our U.S. team to continue to provide our industry-leading services to these clients. As we expand our presence in California and in these markets, we are looking for strong candidates at all levels to join our team!
The Role
As a Senior Engineering Geologist, you will be responsible for providing engineering geology/geotechnical inputs integral to large scale civil infrastructure projects. You will lead and mentor teams, support management of production and coordinate delivery of engineering geology/geotechnical inputs often with multi-disciplinary project team members and senior stakeholders. You will not only support and help grow the broader engineering geology team capabilities, but your particular focus will be on continuing the development of the rock mechanics capability and working with key staff in growing that aspect of the business.
Responsibilities are anticipated to include but are not necessarily limited to:

- Site assessment, design, and quality control of project elements such as underground spaces, deep rock cuts, tunnels, hydropower facilities, water conveyance schemes, and transportation projects, including control of groundwater as related to dewatering, seepage control or depressurization.
- Provide input to those managing and executing multiple projects from the proposal stage through to completion. Projects will include a variety of small to large projects involving environmental, solid waste, geotechnical, tunneling, and hydroelectric sectors.
- Lead engineering geology components for local and regional projects, including preparation and review of reports.
- Frequently and actively interact with clients, and local and regional teams of rock mechanics and engineering geology professionals.
- Travel to project sites is usually limited but is required depending on project/client requirements.
- Pursue new business opportunities with new and existing clients.
- Performing site inspections and assessments of existing geological conditions as they relate to concrete, steel or timber water retaining and water conveyance structures.
- Assessing structures from the geological/engineering geology perspective and investigating alternative methods for carrying out remedial projects for hydroelectric facilities and water retaining and flow control structures (i.e., intake structures, retaining walls, penstocks, spillways, etc.)
- Applying engineering geology principles to the design and analysis processes for dams and hydroelectric facilities.
