Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager (Winnipeg)

KGS Group is currently looking to fill a permanent position for a Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager to assist in the coordination and management of large, complex baseline environmental programs and other environmental monitoring projects within our Winnipeg Environmental Department. In addition to our head office in Winnipeg, KGS Group has offices in Mississauga, Thunder Bay, Saskatoon, Regina, and Vancouver. Candidates may be considered for any of these locations, depending on experience and qualifications.

The Role

KGS Group is looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager with a minimum of 10 years of consulting experience, or demonstrated equivalencies, specifically related to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), planning and permitting, to join a project delivery group within our growing Environmental Department, and work collaboratively with our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment Department. This position consists primarily of office work, with the ability to conduct site visits and support fieldwork as required. The position is not considered a hybrid position; however, accommodations may be made for the successful candidate. Successful applicants will be responsible for leading field studies, leading teams of subject matter specialists within the practice of environmental impact assessment and managing complex multidisciplinary environmental projects.  You will also be responsible for leading or supporting subsequent technical writing, reporting and regulatory submissions. Prior consulting experience in these areas would be considered a defining advantage for candidates. Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead environmental baseline data collection/monitoring programs for multidisciplinary projects located within Northwestern Ontario, and Manitoba. 
  • Lead reviews of regulatory scoping, environmental permit submissions, and baseline monitoring program assessments, working with multidisciplinary technical specialists.
  • Lead and/or contribute to technical documentation, evaluating and writing impact assessment documents, and regulatory submissions in your region.
  • Complete technical review of deliverables and regulatory submissions related to the completion of environmental impact assessments, and other related technical documents.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate personnel.
  • Collaborate with other Departments and KGS Group team members as required and contribute and support other projects.
  • Ensure health and safety are a top priority within the organization and within project execution.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of post-secondary education related to ecology, environmental sciences, or biological science.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience conducting and managing environmental impact assessment, baseline inventories and surveys related to your discipline, preferably in a consulting capacity.
  • An understanding of the environmental regulatory setting and associated requirements for a variety of projects in, at minimum, Ontario and Manitoba.
  • Demonstrated experience and passion to develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous Rightsholders, including delivery of consultation and engagement programs.
  • Demonstrated strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working outdoors in a wide variety of conditions.
  • Ability to periodically conduct physically demanding work in highly variable weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license in your province.

Experience with the following will be considered assets:

  • Qualified or registered with a professional organization such as P.Biol, or RPBio, or ability to obtain such designations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with scientific teams along with sub-contractors in the capacity of environmental monitors or inspectors.
  • Demonstrated experience, interest, and passion to undertake studies, and work located in the Dryden/Ignace region of Northwestern Ontario.
  • Experience within a nuclear regulatory environment is an asset.
  • Experience leading environmental assessments in partnership with Rightsholders is an asset.
  • Ability to mentor and lead more junior team members.
  • Ability to manage mid to large-sized projects and field teams.
  • Experience working in isolated and remote areas.
  • Experience with ATV, UTV, and Argo operations.
