The Role

As a Senior Engineer you will have an opportunity to grow our highly successful Winnipeg operation. You will play a key role in assisting with the management of the department through leadership / mentorship of staff, design oversight, and management of key projects.

You will share project management responsibilities with senior staff and work closely with the Department Head. You will assist in business development through procurement of new projects in new sectors, while aiding our team in the continued growth of our current client base.  You will work in a friendly and collaborative multi-disciplinary environment supported by the many other departments in our local office. You will direct staff within our department who will assist you in attaining your goals.  Through your work at KGS, you will continue to have opportunities to advance your aspirations.

Your mission will ensure project objectives schedules and budgets are met. On any given day, you’ll have the opportunity to interface directly with clients that include major urban centers, provincial and federal organizations, municipalities, First Nations, and private industry. You will prepare designs, reports, studies, and contract documents. You will be part of a team that delivers innovative solutions for our clients.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide design oversight on a wide variety of transportation projects.
  • Participate in and manage multi-disciplinary teams from initial conceptualization through to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within approved budgets.
  • Maintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and review technical proposals and design work packages in response to client requests.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff with their career growth and professional development.
  • Participate in and promote KGS Group’s safety-first culture.

About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualification and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Municipal Engineering Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Eligible for membership with EGM (P.Eng. or Eng.L.) with 10 or more years of progressive experience.
  • Related work experience in the planning, design, and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects in some or all of the following:
    • Urban roadways (regional streets, residential streets, industrial roads, alleys)
    • Rural roadways & highways
    • Active transportation infrastructure (on and off-street)
    • Geometric Design
    • Pavement design of flexible and rigid pavements (AASHTO 1993 & ME)
    • Pavement condition assessments
    • Traffic impact assessments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of associated engineering software (examples include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AASHTO ME, ParkCAD, Nexus, Torus, RoadEng, InRoads, Microstation)
  • Experience administering the construction of transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of municipal and provincial legislation as it relates to transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Strong project management capabilities and proposal/report writing skills.
  • Existing relationships with the staff and management of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure and the City of Winnipeg is considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated business development success considered a strong asset.
