Structural Engineer-in-Training (US)

The Role
The Structural Engineer-in-Training will work in a team environment to prepare structural engineering designs and related documents. You will work on assigned projects under the guidance of Intermediate to Senior level Engineers while collaborating with engineers and designers from other disciplines. Working in a team environment, you will ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and up to high quality standards.
This position is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Engineer-in-Training to continue growing, while working towards obtaining their Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Key Responsibilities
- You will provide structural design of small to large commercial, hydroelectric, and industrial projects.
- Working in a team environment with our other structural department personnel, management, and administrative staff, you will prepare tender and construction documents or reports.
- You will prepare technical reports.
About You
To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering specializing in structural design from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural engineering with demonstrated technical (analysis, code and regulations reviews, design calculations, technical report writing)
- Project management skills (writing project progress reports, tracking budgets and maintaining schedules) would be an asset.
- Experience with hydroelectric generation facilities would be an asset.
- Proficiency with vibration and dynamic analysis of concrete and steel structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Software such as SAP2000, ANSYS, and/or RISA.
- Must be registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in Washington and have passed the NCEES FE exam.
- Previous consulting experience is an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Availability to periodically travel to project sites on an as required basis for ½ day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings.
- Ability to adapt to and meet the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks.
