Transportation Planning Lead
KGS Group is seeking a Transportation Planning Lead to join our growing Transportation Department in Winnipeg.

KGS Group is currently seeking a Transportation Planning Lead in our Winnipeg office. Reporting to the Head of Transportation, this position will be responsible for overseeing projects for clients that include Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, the City of Winnipeg, a broad range of urban and rural municipalities and the private sector. This role will work closely with design and construction staff in the Transportation Department.
The successful candidate will have the ability to lead projects within a team environment and showcase their creative side to positively impact transport mobility in the world around them. The projects will include developing interchange layouts, designing passing lanes, preparing transportation master plans, conducting traffic impact studies, preparing parking studies and corridor studies, undertaking safety assessments and working on active transportation studies. As part of a team of transportation planning professionals, this role will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects with colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in future highway corridor alignment selection
- Conduct traffic operations at intersections and roundabouts
- Oversee area network plans and prepare transportation master plans for municipalities
- Oversee safety audits and in-service safety reviews
- Undertake traffic impact studies, using ITE’s new multi-modal criteria
- Develop traffic forecasts for roadways and highways, and communicate findings to clients/stakeholders
- Liaise with team members and the public on transportation issues
- Prepare study schedules, proposals and project reports
- Lead projects and meetings, and make presentations to clients
- Mentor and supervise staff related to transportation planning and work closely with other departments to develop multi-disciplinary solutions
About You
We’re looking for an applicant to bring forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some ideal qualifications could include:
- Degree in urban planning or civil engineering, with a focus on transportation systems
- 10 years of related transportation planning experience
- Capable using industry standard software such as Synchro, VISSIM and Sidra
- Experience in project management
- Ability to liaise with the public on transportation issues
- Well-developed communication and presentation skills
- Experience in mentoring and supervising transportation planning staff
- Demonstrated ability to write proposals, technical memos and technical reports
- Certifications such as PTP, PTOE or RSP viewed favorably
- Strong people skills, and the ability to work with wide variety of staff and clients
