Urban/Municipal Hydraulic Engineer (Winnipeg/Vancouver)

KGS Group is seeking an intermediate Urban/Municipal Hydraulics Engineer to join our well-established and expanding Urban Hydraulics team in either our Winnipeg or Vancouver offices. The preferred candidate will assist our urban hydraulics team with both wastewater and stormwater (SWMM) sewer modelling, analysis, and design duties on a wide range of projects.

The Role

The Urban/Municipal Hydraulics Engineer will complete hydraulic design projects and provide effective design solutions for multi-disciplinary projects. You will work on design projects that both build on your existing knowledge and expand your engineering experience through mentorship from our senior staff. You will work collaboratively on projects with the municipal department as well as on multi-disciplinary projects with the various other departments at KGS Group. Depending on your personal career path, you will (under the leadership of our senior engineers) focus on design development or take on project management responsibilities. The successful applicant will have a minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience specializing in sanitary sewer and stormwater modelling and urban system hydraulics, including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modelling, and design of sewer and open channel collection and conveyance systems, culverts and ditches, retention/detention ponds, pumps/forcemains, and hydraulic structures.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Hydraulic analysis, modelling, and design of sanitary sewer, combined sewer, and stormwater sewer systems.
  • Design of hydraulic structures, water conveyance, pump stations/forcemains, and storage systems.
  • Hydrologic analyses and development of design storms, including climate change impacts.
  • Preparation and review of technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Preparation of bid/proposal packages.
  • Preparation and delivery of professional presentations.
  • Collaborate with the project team and other disciplines within KGS Group.
  • Helping to maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Manage projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment of budgets and maintaining client relationships.
  • Assist with mentoring and training junior staff.

About You

  • Located in Winnipeg, MB, or Vancouver, BC.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in civil engineering from a recognized university (Master’s degrees are an asset).
  • Eng. Designation.
  • 6-8 years of experience with a focus on wastewater modelling and SWMM.
  • Strong working technical knowledge of and experience in urban hydraulic modelling and design.
  • Highly proactive with exceptional problem solving/analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic studies and designs, specifically including stormwater and/or wastewater modelling and analysis, as well as hydraulic conveyance, structures, and storage components.
  • Demonstrated project management skills (i.e. tracking budgets and meeting schedules) would be an asset.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • Experience working with modelling programs such as InfoWorks ICM, InfoDrainage, PC-SWMM, Civil3D/SSA, StormCAD, MikeUrban, ArcMap/GIS, etc.
  • Experience with computer programing skills will be considered an asset.
  • Organizational skills, ability to manage time and resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
  • You have a valid driver’s license and are willing to occasionally travel to job sites outside of the city.
